Anabel Armeni Cauchi - Deputy Head, Banking Supervision, Malta Financial Services Authority
Anabel is a senior leader in banking supervision with over 17 years of experience across national and European authorities, driving regulatory and supervisory strategies that strengthen financial stability and resilience. She also chairs the MFSA Supervisory Forum and contributes to high-level decision-making within the European Banking Authority and European Central Bank networks. Her expertise spans prudential regulation, risk management, governance, and financial stability, with a strong track record of leading supervisory teams, engaging with boards and executives of banks, and representing Malta in European fora. She is particularly passionate about advancing regulatory approaches in areas such as climate and environmental risk, innovation and proportionality in supervision, and the evolving role of governance in financial institutions.
Marie Briguglio - Associate Professor, University of Malta
Marie Briguglio is a resident academic at the University of Malta (UM) lecturing mainly in Behavioural Economics and Environmental Economics, and expert on themes of economics of wellbeing, environmental cooperation, political preferences, cultural participation and market failure. She is also the principal investigator of the Malta well-being INDEX project.
Tiziana Bugeja - Chief Risk Officer, BNF Bank
Tiziana has occupied roles in areas of treasury and risk management and has experience in liquidity management, derivatives, hedging and proprietary and bond trading, regulatory requirements, SREP reporting, risk assessments, governance and overall risk management. She currently leads a risk team at BNF Bank covering all aspects of risks and reporting to the Bank's Chief Risk Officer.
Gianni Chianetta - Founder & Chair at Greening the Islands Foundation, Board Member and Vice-president Global Solar Council, Head of Secretariat of the Global Alliance for Sustainable Energy, Chairman of Worldwide Carbon Price and member of the Advisory Board at REN21
Gianni has been working in the area of energy since 2003. He has been Head of Comms & Institutional Affairs at BP Italy, Managing Director at BP Solar Italy, Founder and Chairman of the first Italian Solar PV Industry Association for three consecutive terms, when he negotiated the five Photovoltaic Energy Incentive Decrees (feed-in tariff) with the Italian Government, contributing to the growth of installed capacity from about 35 MWp to more than 20 GWp. He also chaired the National Committee for Solar Energy of the Italian Ministry of the Environment, was a member of the Steering Committee of the Coalition for Action of IRENA and a member of the Strategy Committee of Solar Power Europe. He founded the Global Network of National PV Associations in 2007, which formed the basis for the Global Solar Council, where he was elected Co-Chairman, Chairman, CEO, Secretary, before taking on the role of VP. He was also founder and Vice-Chair of Global Renewables Alliance. Gianni has a degree in Mechanical & Management Engineering and masters/seminars at Middlesex University (London), Kellogg School of Management (Chicago), SDA Bocconi Milano (Milan) and Istituto de Empresa (Madrid).
Renate de Lange - Sustainability Leader, Global Tax & Legal Services | Sustainability Leader for EMEA, PwC
Renate is a Partner at PwC Netherlands and a member of PwC’s Global
Sustainability Leadership team. As a former member of the Dutch Executive Board, she held combined responsibilities as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) and Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO), overseeing Brand, Marketing, Go-to-Market strategy, and the firm’s sustainability agenda. Currently, as EMEA Sustainability Leader, Renate drives transformation programs focused on unlocking long-term value through sustainability. In 2025, she also assumed the Global Leadership role for Sustainability across Tax and Legal Services, helping clients navigate the evolving regulatory landscape to drive business growth. Renate partners with businesses to build resilient, forward-looking models that integrate sustainability into their core strategy. Her leadership is characterised by cross-functional collaboration and an ability to connect sustainability with commercial value creation.
Michael Dingli - Manager, PwC Malta
Michael leads the firm’s sustainability practice. With a background in banking audit and advisory, he has extensive experience supporting financial institutions in managing climate and environmental risks. Michael now advises companies across sectors on implementing the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, greenhouse gas accounting, and EU taxonomy reporting, including sustainability assurance. His work bridges regulatory compliance with strategic sustainability, helping organisations navigate the evolving ESG landscape.
Antonello Gauci - ESG Advisor
Passionate about leadership, sustainability and driving meaningful change, Antonello is a dynamic and results-orientated leader with a proven track record in team management. He holds a Masters degree in Leadership and Sustainability from the University of Cumbria and is a fellow of the Institute of Leadership (UK). With over 25 years of management experience, he has spent the past 8 years as the CEO of the Inspire Foundation. He is also a board member of several other organisations. Antonello actively supports companies in addressing their ESG and CSRD requirements, underscoring his dedication to sustainable and responsible business practices.

Mathias Mingazzini - Technical Manager in the Sustainability Reporting Pillar, EFRAG
Mathias is part of the SME team within EFRAG. He joined EFRAG in 2023 and worked on the drafting of the VSME Standard and all related materials. He is currently working on the VSME Ecosystem to support SMEs in their sustainability reporting experience. Mathias holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Management obtained from Bocconi University, Italy. He continued his studies with a Masters in Transformative Sustainability, a joint degree between Bocconi University and Politecnico di Milano, Italy. Within his studies, he had the opportunity to master sustainability reporting aspects both from an economic and engineering perspective.
Donal Quinn - Founder, ENSO
Donal is the founder of ENSO, a B Corp certified sustainability platform built for SMEs. He started ENSO with a clear purpose: to help SMEs have a positive environmental impact and make a real difference in their communities. Having seen the same problem repeatedly, SMEs losing tenders, struggling to respond to supply chain data requests and managing sustainability questions with no structured support in place, he built a purpose built solution for them. His background in marketing and branding shapes how ENSO approaches sustainability, not as a reporting obligation but as something that actively helps businesses win work
Braden Sammut - Senior Manager, PwC Malta
Braden obtained a Masters in Accountancy from the University of Malta in 2014 and has been with PwC since, first as part of a dedicated team within the Assurance line of service that provides services to Banks and other financial institutions. He has worked with various local banks in Malta, including significant banks and high-priority less significant institutions, initially in auditing, asset quality and credit impairment allowances, having been involved with various AQR related projects. He currently specialises in consulting credit and financial institutions on regulatory matters, governance, risk management and business planning. I dedicate my time to assist banks with IFRS 9 impairment methodologies, ICAAP, ILAAP, Recovery Planning, Stress testing, interpretation of the CRR/CRD IV framework and the BRRD. Braden also been involved in the performance of a Business Model Analysis in line with the requirements of the Supervisory Review and Evaluation Process (SREP).
I also participate in learning and education programmes organised by the PwC Academy, delivering training on technical banking and regulatory related matters.
Patrick Spiteri Staines - Head of Sustainability, IHI
Patrick is a registered energy auditor and building energy assessor, specialising in sustainable energy, energy efficiency, and renewable energy. He is also authorised to issue energy performance certificates for dwellings according to the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, issued by the EU in 2018.
Prior to his role at IHI, he served as Director at commercial and industrial equipment provider T4B Services Ltd for 14 years, as well as Business Development Consultant at Attard & Co. Industrial Ltd for more than 28 years. Additionally, his experience also includes three years as Engineering Sales Manager at Masco Security Services Ltd. Patrick graduated from University of Malta with a Masters in Sustainable Energy and a Bachelor Electrical Engineering, and is a professional warranted engineer, both locally and in Europe.
Matthew Swain - Head of Sustainability at APS Bank plc
Matthew Swain is Head of Sustainability at APS Bank plc. Prior to this, Matthew spent over a decade in London working with a major global bank. He specialised in renewable energy lending for corporates, eventually managing and implementing global sustainability risk policies. He is experienced at assessing ESG impacts of large scale financing projects as well as developing climate strategies for the banking sector. In his time at APS he has lead the development of an ESG Strategy Framework and setting up the banks Medium term ESG commitments. He is now working to implement a wider Sustainability strategy ensuring alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as overall responsibility for Emissions Accounting and ESG reporting.
Norbert Vella - Partner, PwC
Norbert has over 17 years of experience in the finance sector including assurance and consulting services and local banking. He leads a diverse team of experts as the Sustainability Leader at PwC Malta to support large organisations in preparing for the implementation of CSRD, as well as emissions reporting and strategy setting. Norbert's expertise includes ESRS reporting, GHG accounting, Taxonomy reporting, and the respective assurance.
